Having relocated to Australia after seven years in NYC/Boston, Korean-Australian pianist and composer Mina Yu has established herself as a leading performer and educator. Her playing is influenced by contemporary jazz pianists such as Herbie Hancock and Eliane Elias, alongside classical composers including Erik Satie and Maurice Ravel.
In the USA, she performed as a pianist and musical director at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Columbia University, and New York Live Arts, and toured internationally across South Korea, Australia, England, and Switzerland. Since being based in Australia, Mina has performed at Hamer Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, Arts Centre Melbourne, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, NGV, the Australian Open, Parliament House, and St Paul’s Cathedral. She was nominated for the Australian Music Prize in 2025 and currently teaches at the University of Melbourne and Monash College, while working as an AMEB assessor. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of Music. While at Manhattan School of Music, she was the recipient of many awards, including the CJ Culture Scholarship and the MSM Scholarship.
